ARCH 562 Collective Studio Design Project
Junction TAB
Detroit, MI
* This is a group work project

The project is located at 402 Harper Ave at Milwaukee Junction, Detroit, MI. Our project aims to participate in the area's revitalization process by providing a hybrid housing model that accommodates potential new residents, including college students, local workers, and single families.

The project is arranged and features different scales of shared living components, aiming to fulfill the needs of these resident groups. While keeping the sustainable building strategies in mind to support long-term affordability.

Site Plan

The design establishes layered interaction for each unit, maintains a clear privacy boundary while offering shared amenities. Along with other larger share functions to promote collaboration and collective living.

Unit Arrangement Feature
Each two-unit apartment shared a kitchen. This move aims to reduce the total square footage residents pay for their individual units to make the apartments more affordable. Sliding walls are introduced to separate the unit and kitchen so that residents can make the unit completely private, open to their neighboring unit, or open to the whole building.
